Past Post 164 Commanders

Brian Dean

 Brian Dean served as Post Commander from 2015 through 2017.  The annual Spearfish American Legion Ball is part of Commander Dean's legacy.  He is continuing to serve the Post and members of the community.

Mitch Mechaley

Mitch Mechaley who served as Post Commander from 2013 through 2015 is currently serving as the Immediate Past Commander.  He is continuing to serve the Post and members of the community by serving as the Chair of the Veterans Monument Committee.

David Bertch

David Bertch was a dedicated Legionnaire.  He dedicated many years to Post 164 and volunteered many hours of time in support of local Post projects.  Commander Bertch transferred to Post Everlasting in 2017.

Fred Nelson

Fred Nelson served as Post Commander from 2002 through 2006.  Fred then moved onto District Vice Commander, District Commander, State Vice Commander, and State Americanism Chairman.  He attended and graduated from the American Legion College in 2011.  He is currently serving as the Post Americanism Officer, as a member of the Department Americanism Commission, the Department Membership Council, and the Department Public Relations Committee.  He serves on the National Committee for Education and Homelessness.  In addition Fred is active in Chapter 164 of the American Legion Riders and serves as their Road Captain.
